City Hall and District Six transform into creative hubs for Loeries Week

05 October 2024

The 46th Loeries Creative Week, the premier creative experience across Africa and the Middle East, is taking place in Cape Town this coming week. The Mother City has been home to the festival for the last four years.

Loeries Creative Week will host multiple events over five days from 7 – 11 October 2024.

The festival is the largest gathering of Africa and the Middle East’s brand communications and creative industry. It also recognises, rewards, inspires and fosters creative excellence in the advertising and brand communication industry.

Two of Cape Town’s iconic landmarks, City Hall and the Homecoming Centre, in District Six will host the bulk of the festivities taking place during the week.

City Hall will be the judging hub for the Loeries Awards for three days between 7 and 9 October.

The Grand Old Dame will also play host to two nights of Loeries Awards on Thursday, 10 October and Friday, 11 October.

The Homecoming Centre will host a number of events from 9 October – 11 October, including a public expo, a Loeries Student Expo, creative masterclasses and an international seminar of creativity.

‘The City of Cape Town’s partnership with the Loeries over the last four years has not only been a wonderful showcase of creative sector in Africa and the Middle East, but has also made significant contributions to Cape Town’s economy. Over the three editions, those attending Loeries Creative Week have directly spent over R94 million combined during their stay in our city. Additionally, those three editions have had an overall impact of R139 million on Cape Town’s GDP.  We are looking forward to welcoming all the creatives to our city for 2024 and sharing ideas on how to further grow the creative industry,’ said Alderman JP Smith, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security.

Some of the highlights from the 2023 event include:

• An introduction of a three-day expo with 16 exhibitors open to the public for free
• An introduction of a High School Programme where 50 pupils from local schools attended masterclasses
• Event was fully sold out by creative industry professionals from Africa and the Middle East
• Some 6 412 delegates attended (42 % from outside Cape Town)

For the 2024 edition, nearly 7 000 industry professionals are expected to attend over the festival’s five-day run.
